Article: What do the famous paintings reflect?
Article, dated 2 July 1008
During my working-out of website page “famous paintings” I have listed many questions around the paintings of Leonardo da Vinci. It was surprising what have been going around in my mind. In fact I was clear up my mind why the famous paintings could be important for you. All of you have a certain need to visit this site; curiosity, need for (school) knowledge, art interest or perhaps a mystic point of view (see other
articles
).
Anyway, many reason to be here, however, there is a common point for the visitors. I made my observation and I believe that it is: to see the paintings and to understand them.
For this reason I have prepared a photo gallery linked to other great sites and I have tried to explore the art paintings by the view of an artist, art historian, mystic, and girl-next-door (which is my personal view LOL).
The 4 views have defined a common point:
In the background of da Vinci ‘s paintings is (almost) always a realistic natural landscape which reflects the relationship between man and nature.
I have found it very interesting to make that conclusion !!
How did I made up my mind?
The Mind of an Artist observed: “the background is important to get the focus on the main subject; it can make of break the meaning and/or beauty of a painting or drawing”.
I am not a art historian, although I received some teaching during an art painting education.
If you search on internet or in art books, art historians took special attention for the landscape background which become more conventional during the Renaissance.
And what did the mystic observe? Not that much, however, all of them were searching for secret messages (see other
articles
). Some of them noticed special effects, thus a secret, in the background. Similar as cloud watching to see some fantasy figures hahaha Sorry, I am serious….
Specialist of Renaissance icons took more attention to the background, and they noticed always a beautiful background and in front one of more persons. As well as the Last Supper shows the landscape through the small Tuscany windows!!
Finally, the view of girl-next-door; me! Leonardo was a genius, so I thought it is too easily to search for a secret message in one painting. I have asked myself: what could be the common factor within his famous paintings. I have figured out: the landscape in each painting.
It was an easy step forward to make up my mind by using the knowledge of philosophy. The Renaissance also was a period of NEW TIME behind the Middle Age. The features were :
1) renewing view of man and nature
2) big inventions
3) renewing of the church; humanism was growing
4) revolution on politics and economy
Do you see some similarities in our present time? I do !! Therefore, I have asked myself so many questions what was in the mind of da Vinci while he was painting; to learn from him.
And unfortunately, he and others like Raphael, Botticilli, Michelangelo were a threat for the church (
